Ashanti has landed a new gig....

Look for Shanti to make her stage debut this summer as Dorothy in a revival of “The Wiz,” the soul-tinged version of the classic L. Frank Baum story. The musical will be ive June 12 through July 5 at New York City Center as part of its “Encores! Summer Stars” series. Opening night is June 18.

GV Says: Congrats on that....I like Ashanti.

Tyra Banks' alleged stalker Brady Green was convicted of stalking, harassment, criminal trespass and attempted aggravated harassment Thursday morning at Manhattan's criminal court.

"The behavior was hounding," Judge James Burke said, according to the New York Daily News. The judge had listened to closing arguments Thursday morning before deciding the verdict.

Though the crime carried a possible 90-day jail sentence, Burke did not sentence the defendant to any jail time, instead instructing his lawyer, Jeffrey Berman: "Put Mr. Green in a location where he can thrive. And that location is not likely to be the city of New York." The 38-year-old defendant is a native of Dublin, Ga.

The sentence comes just one day after Banks took the stand, telling prosecutors, "I fear my safety. I feel extremely vulnerable. I fear the safety of my staff. My family. The people in my vicinity."

Where bad meets worse there's DMX.....

It seems X has just been ordered to pay nearly a quarter of a million bucks to a man he assaulted at JFK airport.

It all started 5 years ago, when Port Authority officers arrested X for posing as an FBI agent and using a fake police siren to pull Sergei Priporin and his family over at the airport.

X -- who claims he pulled them over for making him late for a flight -- was in possession of crack, Oxycodone, Diazepam and a billy club at the time.

The plaintiffs, who originally sued for $4 million each, are getting a total of $240,000 in damages.

X's lawyer, Richard Corde said in a statemen, "Mr. Simmons still feels justified in pulling them over when they didn't get out of his way... he's not apologizing for that. He still believes the gentleman driving should have gotten out of his way. At the same time, he plead guilty to the charges and therefore paid for his behavior."

GV Says: D*mn!

Here's something positive.....Usher and his mom Jonetta today unveiled a new billboard featuring his childhood photo as part of Boys & Girls Clubs of America’s” BE GREAT” campaign. Usher attended the Boys & Girls Club of Chattanooga as a young boy.

GV Says: Good to see Usher and his mom back together.

Say it ain't so.....

Word is Kelis and Nas may be headed toward splittsville. We hear Kelis is fed up with Nas' verbally abusive and cheating ways.

GV Says: Lets hope this isn't true. Kelis is about seven months pregnant now. Smh. Somebody's got to make it y'all.

UPDATE: This unfortunately has been confirmed.
Kelis filed for divorce today in L.A. County Superior Court. :(

Quincy, the biological son of singer Al. B. Sure (but "adopted" -and I mean that loosely, it not official - son of Diddy) has hit the internet again with a response to his first letter.

Hello World.

I published a “Letter To My Father” recently and the tremendous response deserves my sincere thanks. I’m overwhelmed by how many people took the time to read my letter and listen to my record. I received thousands of calls, texts, comments and e-mails. Thank you for your compassion, support, and understanding.

To those that share my experience, I thank you for your courage. Many of you shared with me your life-experiences without your fathers. I say to you “This is only a season,” one aspect of life. Take the lessons and let them make you stronger and wiser. Commit to never make the same mistake.

I realized I was taking a great personal risk to share my feelings. I thought that revealing this part of my life was necessary. It was an important part of a process to help me understand who I am. I released years of disappointment and pain. My healing has begun.

I haven’t heard from my Dad since I published my letter. I know that eventually our paths will cross in this journey called LIFE. As it has often been said, “Time heals all wounds.” Now it’s time to move on with my journey. A journey where my faith tells me that my father and I will be stronger. Dad, I love you.

Again, I extend my heartfelt thanks to everyone that has shared in this life changing experience with me.

Thank You Again…

GV Says: So sad....SMH....Al B. should be ashamed. The boys looks like his twin. There's no denying him. Sad...I guess we all have our own journey. Luckily he was blessed w/ a father figure.

Here's something adorable. Usher was spotted with his son Usher V yesterday on Miami beach.

LOL....for my Hills stans. These two look ridiculous and I simply couldn't resist posting.

Newlyweds Heidi Montag and Spencer Pratt picked the worst time to head down to Cabo and shoot the video for Heidi's new single, "Blackout," in Mexico — considering the country is battling a swine-flu epidemic.

"We're definitely wearing the face masks everywhere we go," Spencer told Ryan Seacrest on his radio show Tuesday. "We're not playing. I'm not trying to get pig flu! We're in isolation. We're in, like, full hiding." LOL

"We're not on our honeymoon technically yet. This is a music-video shoot we're doing this weekend," Heidi added. "The honeymoon's coming in a couple weeks."

GV Says: I don't know what's funnier...these two walking around w/ masks on or the fact that she's still working on this music career.

So Breezy has managed to dodge a bullet once again. Just call him R. Kelly.....

Mark Geragos, the attorney representing Chris Brown in his felony assault case, told reporters outside of a Los Angeles courthouse today that he wants the case dismissed entirely, due to high-level leaks in the investigation.

"Leaks can form the basis for a motion to dismiss the case in regard to outrageous governmental misconduct," Geragos said.

The "leaks" the lawyer was referring to include the widely circulated police photo of Rihanna that showed the starlet badly bruised and suffering from a number of scratches. Geragos will file a motion regarding the photo, as well as "several other incidents of leaks about the case." When the photo first appeared on TMZ in February, the Los Angeles Police Department announced it would conduct an investigation into the leak, but no findings in the matter have been announced as of press time.

Geragos appeared in court without Brown and, as expected, requested additional discovery time. The attorney claimed that evidence turned over by the LAPD still had not been presented to him. Without much objection from prosecutors, the judge scheduled a new hearing for May 28.

The stipulated date could help speed up a possible plea-deal negation. Brown's attorney and the L.A. County District Attorney's office have reportedly been working on striking a deal.

The judge also ruled to release Rihanna's jewelry on Wednesday. Her attorney had requested the borrowed items, reportedly worth up to $1.4 million, that she had been wearing on the night of the incident be returned from police custody. Police will take photos of the jewelry and use the images should the evidence be needed in court.

GV Says: I lose more and more respect for Breezy as time passes with this case. Help me get this right....You beat the girl down to the white meat, then you have the nerve to want to get off because the world has seen what you're capable of. It's so crazy to me how this brother does not want to pay the piper, face the music, take ownership for his drama. And again, Tyra made a great point when Oprah did the Chrihanna special. The whole jist of this case and outrage comes from the fact that excessive force was used on the girl. We're not talking mutual fight. We're saying that an excessive - or criminal amount - of force was used and the proof of the comes via the photos.

Today Tyra Banks testified against accused stalker Brady Green.

"I fear my safety. I feel extremely vulnerable. I fear the safety of my staff. My family. The people in my vicinity," said Banks, who appeared calm and spoke softly on the stand in downtown Manhattan, as she shared her recollection of when she heard about Green, 38, who is charged with stalking, harassment and criminal trespass.

"[My staff doesn't] tell me about fans," said Banks. "They said this person threatened one of my staffers. At that moment that was it. The first thing is there's this person who's more than a fan."

Explaining the intensity of the threat, Banks said, "I was at work one day about to leave and a bunch of people on my staff said, 'No! You can't go.' [Green] got past security and you need to be here. Never in my career had staff reacted like this. I had to stay in my dressing room for a while."

The incident scared Banks profoundly. "My life has changed significantly, even the people who know me," she testified. "I don't live that sheltered life. I like to walk around my neighborhood. I run outside. I like to go to the movies by myself, eat meals by myself. My company hired security. When I'm at the movies, in a restaurant, they are there with me."

"I can't jog outside anymore. I would go with a trainer or alone but with security present," she said, adding, "The show made significant changes. They hired security. Plain clothes too. Budget is everything but they understood that was necessary. The extra [expenditures] were made."

Banks left the courthouse escorted by lawyers and did not comment. Green's lawyers declined to comment. He faces a maximum of 90 days in jail if convicted.

GV Says: Good for her for taking this foolishness serious.

Usher is the new face of the Boys & Girls Club. A childhood photo of the singer is featured on a new billboard for the "Be Great" campaign, with the tagline "Be Iconic."

"'Be Great' starts when you're an infant," he says. "It's what every parent wants of their child. It's what my mom wanted of me, and what I want for my kids.

"It's those around us who motivate us to be iconic. Places like the Boys & Girls Club helped me be that icon I am today. 'Be Iconic' is not just about status, it's about what you choose to care about. What you give your time, attention and focus to."

GV Says: Cute...

So after the Making the Band finale last week, D. Woods has released a rather cryptic message about DK's demise.

Friends, romans, country men, play cousins, and all my single ladies...lend
me your ears! I've learned that many of you may be disappointed and even
upset by the recent course of events with my departure from Danity Kane; I
am as well. However, the evil that men do lives beyond them, the good is
often forgotten, and how quickly we forget how this whole thing started. You
may want to know what happened to bring us to this point, you wonder if it
was real and when the punch line will roll in. You are searching for answers
and closure.

I am truly sorry for the disappointment and even more sorry to
tell you that you will never find the answers or what's real, while watching
"reality" tv. The concoction of lies, truth, and entertainment has been the
main course on the menu you've been eating for quite some time my friends.
However, I am confident that the truth will "come out" when the sh*t hits
the fan, literally!

When that great day comes you can come find me. Uninspired and
malnutritioned as you may be from the can find me. I'll be
by myself, standing on a bare stage ready to light a fire in the hearts and
minds of you all. No well oiled machine to crank out thoughts, feelings and
images for you to consume, it will be just me. And we will feed off
each other to create a new movement of what we want to see on stage and on
screen. I hope you will continue to support me and that I will see you once
I emerge from the constraints of the smoke and mirrors.

The revolution will not be televised...that b*tch went digital! Man against
the machine.

Ya girl D.woods

GV Says: I have to say, I have no idea what this means. That said D. Woods is still my girl. Love her swagger. Hopefully these girls can move on in positive directions.

Beyonce went sightseeing in Vienna, Austria before her concert Tuesday. The songstress went shopping in a fashion-forward ensemble of J Brand jeans, YSL shoes and a Valentino bag. B is in Europe for her "I AM..." world tour.

Sarah Jessica Parker and Matthew Broderick are having twins!

The couple's reps said they are expecting the birth of twin daughters this summer through a surrogate pregnancy, the Associated Press reports.

The Sex and the City star and her actor husband are "overjoyed," their publicists said Tuesday.

The couple already has a son, James Wilkie, 6.

GV Says: Guess no more stories of a rocky marriage for a while huh....

So Kim got a lot of attention yesterday when she revealed her new blonde do'

"Hey everyone I have a drastic new look! I’m gonna twitpic it later today!” And several hours later, a photo did appear as promised with a new note, “I WENT BLONDE!!!! Do u like it?”

Too bad it was just a wig.

“I did a fabulous photo shoot this weekend and they put this hair piece on! I haven’t taken it off since, because I’m really loving the look.”

GV Says: Wigging it before bleaching is definitely a good look. I actually like it though. I guess she was looking for the verdict from the masses before pulling the trigger.

Shutterbugs caught a glimpse of Usher and his 17 month old son, Usher V, at LAX over the weekend.

GV Says: Cute..

Obsessed, the new Fatal Attraction-style thriller, dominated the weekend box office with $28.5 million in ticket sales -- well over what studio execs predicted.

The movie also stars The Office's Idris Elba, who plays Knowles' husband in an ideal marriage that is shattered after a psychotic coworker begins some serious stalking.

The film -- which was projected to open in the high teens -- is Knowles' top-grossing debut since her own film debut in Austin Powers in Goldmember.
Zac Efron's 17 Again and Terrance Howard’s Fighting were neck-and-neck for the No. 2 spot, with Efron's comedy taking in $11.7 million after debuting as the top movie last week and Fighting bringing in $11.4 million in its opening weekend.

The Soloist -- starring Robert Downey Jr. and Jamie Foxx -- opened at No. 4 with $9.7 million.

GV Says: Wow....who knew people! When I decided to check out Obsessed it was really for lack of nothing to do. While I love B’s singing, her acting brings little to be desired. However, I must keep it real w/ you all. Obsessed was really, really. It was money well spent. Check it out if you can. I know all my Twitter folk gave me the side-eye when I said I was going to check it out. And I even got a couple of responses that doubted my “thumbs up” rating. Told you guys it was decent!

Kim Kardashian revealed her new look today on twitter.

“Hey everyone I have a drastic new look! I’m gonna twitpic it later today!” And several hours later, a photo did appear as promised with a new note, “I WENT BLONDE!!!! Do u like it?”

GV Says: I like it. I prefer her natural darker color, however it's no Christina Milian disaster.

Monica and Mario Van Peebles hit up Viacom's launch party.

Viacom, the owner of BET, is forming a new cable television channel for middle-aged African-Americans. The channel, to be named Centric and scheduled to make its debut in October. Centric will be operated jointly by MTV and BET.

Toccara was there

So after getting hit with grand theft auto, producer Scott Storch has surfaced and revealed that his recent problems have all been the result of a cocaine addicion.

“I found myself slipping a little bit,” he said with a very anxious look on his face. “I got involved in doing drugs. I had to get myself into recovery. Being in the life that I was living — very fast-moving, option to do anything you want, go anywhere you wanna go — it definitely takes its toll on you, and you lose your concept of reality. I had to get it under control. I had to take it back to the beginning and back to the Hit Factory, where I made a lot of my hits.

“Just taking it day by day,” the producer said of his life now. “I haven’t won the war. It’s not like something you can just fix and it’s just gone. Addiction is a disease, and I have to constantly battle it. I feel so much better and have more clarity, especially in the studio. It’s cool. It’s been a really productive period. … With the help of my publisher TVT, I’ve had the chance to woodshed and come up with a whole new vibe. I’m very happy right now.”

Four jewelers who lent Rihanna approximately $1 million worth of accessories the night of her alleged beating by Chris Brown want their bling back.

Since late March, Rihanna, 21, has been trying to recover the borrowed jewelry from the LAPD, who took the items into evidence in their investigation.

"Since there appears to be no evidentiary value to the continued holding of this jewelry ... we respectfully [ask] the court to order the return of this property to [Rihanna] without further delay," her lawyer Donald Etra wrote in a court request filed earlier this week.

The items were described as two yellow metal hoop earrings with white stones; one yellow metal ring with white stones and green stones; and two yellow metal rings with white stones.

"If the DA doesn't need the items, and the LAPD doesn't need the items, there's no reason why they shouldn't be returned," Etra maintains.

A source adds that Rihanna also borrowed a Gucci dress for the Feb. 7 Clive Davis Pre-Grammy Party she attended, which also has not been returned.

Etra states in the documents that the owners of the jewelry were going to hold Rihanna liable if the accessories weren't returned, with the total cost and damages related to their late return as more than $1.4 million.

According to the court papers, the LAPD detective on the case referred Etra to the prosecutor on the case, who apparently has not responded to requests for the jewelry's return.

Sad news to report.....actress Bea Arthur of the sitcom Golden Girls passed on Saturday at 86.

Dan Watt, a spokesman for Arthur's family, told the Associated Press that the star had been suffering with cancer, though he did not specify what kind. She died peacefully at her Los Angeles home with her family by her side, said Watt, who remembered Arthur as "a brilliant and witty woman."

Golden Girls, a popular NBC Saturday-night staple from 1985 to 1992, featured Arthur as the outspoken Dorothy Zbornak, who shared a Florida home with three other women, including her mother, played by Estelle Getty – who died last July, at 84. The other stars were Rue McClanahan and Betty White.

She also appeared on Maude, a spin-off of the hit All in the Family.

OMG....The Hills hit an all time high of foolishness this weekend when Spencer & Heidi wed

The Hills stars got married in an early evening ceremony at the Westminster Presbyterian Church in Pasadena, Calif., on Saturday.

Montag, 22, and Pratt, 25, exchanged vows before about 200 guests, including Audrina Patridge, Kristin Cavallari, Brody Jenner and Frankie Delgado.

Early Saturday, the couple arrived at the church in a white Rolls Royce Phantom. Before the ceremony, an airplane flew overhead and wrote "Spencer loves Heidi" in the sky.

Meanwhile, Montag posted multiple updates on Twitter throughout the day. "This is going to be the best day of my life," she wrote at one point. "Thank you God for Spencer." She also described her wedding dress as "amazing – like a swan princess."

GV Says: SMH....

After the ceremony, the newlyweds emerged and kissed on the church steps. Wedding guests threw rose petals at the couple, who left for the reception in black Rolls Royce Phantom.

Lil Kim was on the set of Access Hollywood recently taping a segment about DWTS

Dear Lil Kim,

What have you done to your face? I didn't even recognize you. This is beyond ridiculous. It's so sad to see someone who was adorable simply dismember their appearance. Please step away from the knife.

Rihanna and Katy Perry were spotted together in Barbados yesterday.

Today Beyonce's dad was piping mad when a supposedly live audio of Beyonce singing in a less than par manner was released.

Beyonce’s dad is on the warpath against the people attacking his daughter for the supposed ” board mix” audio of B singing at “The Today Show" — claiming all doubters of her ability are “idiots.” In a fiery statement to TMZ, Matthew Knowles, who’s also Bey’s manager, says his daughter was set up. It’s one of the best statements we’ve ever gotten. “If no one took the time to look at the biggest Inauguration in the history of America then shame on them. If no one took the time to listen to Beyonce sing ‘America the Beautiful’ and ‘At Last’ at the Neighborhood Ball for the first dance of President Obama and the First Lady, and they question Beyonce’s vocal ability, they’ve gotta be an idiot. At 12 years into her career, the last thing someone should be questioning is her vocal ability. That would be like questioning if Kobe Bryant could shoot a jump shot. The vocals were obviously altered.

You can take a listen here, the it was clear to me that the vocals were indeed altered.

We hear that after the storm, Jennifer Hudson and fiance David Otunga aka "Punk" may be expecting a little bundle of joy. She officially was put on "bump" watch after reporters noted a slight pooch. And “sources” close to her and her fiance David are confirming to media sources like Essence that they are indeed expecting.

GV Says: Only time will tell if congratulations is in order. I just hope David doesn't do her wrong. I'm still shaky about him appearing on I Love New York 2.

Snoop Dogg's wax statue was revealed at Madame Tussauds in Vegas yesterday. They even outfitted him in his own clothing line.

GV Says: Actually very life-like....nice!

The Carters were spotted walking the streets of Tribeca this week.

GV Says: Love the laid back look of B

In a recent interview, actor Idris Elba kept it real about working with your girl B.....Interesting

Connecting With Beyonce…
“I think this was a very important role for her, because it was the first time she wasn’t playing a singer. But when we first started taping, it was difficult for us to really connect as artists because she has such a huge machine behind her. So in the early going it felt divided … almost like it was her and her team on one side, and everyone else on the other. But once the cameras started rolling, she really opened up and those walls began to fall. As a result, I really saw her grow as an artist, and I think you’ll be able to see it as well when you watch the film.”

Elba’s take on the film receiving a PG-13 rating …
“The process of making a movie with BeyoncĂ© was unique, just because she’s such a huge superstar. So when I first looked at the script, I thought the film could have and probably should have received an “R” rating on subject matter alone. But BeyoncĂ© has such a responsibility to her younger fans that I believe it was necessary for them not to try certain things because of that responsibility.”

We hear "Congrats" are in order for Jill Scott and fiance John Roberts.....They welcomed a bouncing baby boy yesterday.

Jill’s mother says baby “Jack” and his mom are doing well after enduring 2 days of labor!

Baby Jack is 7 lbs 8 oz, 20 inches long. Congrats!!!!

Chris Breezy was spotted rolling around in his Lambo up in Ultra club this weekend while in he was in VA

We hear Natalie from Girlicious may have been in tote too, but so far there's no truth that....probably because we also heard that Breezy hooked back up with Rihanna while in Los Angeles a few days back.

Supposedly, the two spent the night togehter at Rihanna’s house after she flew into town from Kansas.

As Rihanna checked out some houses in the Hollywood Hills, Brown headed off to buy some Belgian chocolates for her at the Beverly Center.

Getting out of town soon after, Brown is said too have flown out to Virginia for the weekend, partying at club Ultra Lounge in Virginia Beach on Friday night.

GV Says: Who knows w/ these two. I still say they need some professional assistance.

We hear that in addition to the lack luster sales of his recent album (28,000 in first week sales), New Jack City II, Bow Weezy may be a little under the weather. Turns out his throat is infected and those doctor prescribed anti-biotics aren’t really helping his situation.

As for the album sales, Weezy has a word for that too - his first album also sold 30,000 in its first week, before going on to sell 300,000.

Who knew Lupe Fiasco was set to climb Mount Kilimanjaro this fall with Justin Timberlake and Kenna.

NY Daily News reports:

“Hell, yeah, [I’m worried!]” Fiasco told us of the 19,000-foot trek at the Converse 1Hund(RED) Artists Dinner at Aquavit. “[If things go bad out there], everybody’s dying!” he laughed. “I’ll go psychopath, freak out and murder everyone for the sake of none of us suffering! It would be like the ending of a Stephen King movie, by the time the rescue helicopter comes,” he quipped. But Timberlake fans shouldn’t worry. “I wouldn’t euthanize Justin unless he was really suffering."

So Hov's not afraid to speak his mind these days. After supporting his Rihanna, looks like he's got some words for Micheal Phelps too. According to the NY Daily News:

“You look at all these people who graduated from Princeton and Harvard, who are supposed to be pillars of the community — every day [they’re] in the newspaper arrested for some kind of financial fraud,” the Grammy winner told Cigar Aficionado magazine for his first-ever cover appearance. “Then you look at someone like Michael Phelps. He’s 23. What’s he gonna do? He’s a kid. He’s going to experiment.”

He went on to say, “They say there’s no honor among thieves — that’s not really true. When I was on the street . . . if you back on your word [out there], they don’t take you to court. You can cause yourself some real problems. When I first came into the music business, I’d have these conversations with executives and we’d shake hands on something, and the next time I saw them they’d say, ‘I never said that.’ So I’d say there’s no honor among businessmen.”

A NY club owner believes Hov may have done a dine and dodge.....The NY Post reports:

HIP-hop king Jay-Z's entourage is trying to avoid paying a popular Chelsea club for a pricey night out, according to the owner.

In February, Atlantic Records executive Michael Kyser and Universal Music Group honcho Shawn Costner took Jay-Z and his posse out to M2 in Chelsea. But owner Joey Morrisey claims that Kyser and Costner are refusing to pay their $1,500 tab.

"Jay-Z ordered a bottle of Patron Platinum and some expensive champagne, and everything was going great," M2 man- ager Dan Develin tells Page Six. "The waitress has known him for five years, and he's a good friend of Joey's, so we ended up comping a lot of their bill."

But when the check came for $1,500 -- amounting to less than a third of the tab they'd actually rung up -- things got hairy. "Kyser and Costner were making a big show of wanting to take Jay-Z out, so they started arguing over who got to pick up the check," Develin says. "Jay-Z ended up tipping the waitress $500 and going outside to wait."

Eventually, Develin says, the two decided to split it. After Costner's corporate MasterCard was declined, however, Kyser agreed to foot the entire bill.

"Before we could get him to sign the receipt, he left the club," Develin says. "Of course, we still have his card, so we called up his office, and his assistant told us someone would come by to sign. Weeks went by, and no one ever did. Finally, we got a call from AmEx and were told that Kyser was disputing the charge. When we called him up again, his assistant said, 'Oh, Michael says he doesn't actually remember being there' -- which is crazy because we have his card and photos of him and Jay-Z."

Owner Morrissey said, "We just want to settle this and be done without having to press charges."

The Carters went for a walk around the Soho section of New York City to go shopping for sunglasses on Saturday (April 18).

According to onlookers, the afternoon outing quickly drew the attention of the couple’s adoring fans, who swarmed around to ask for their autographs.

We hear one person' isn't afraid to voice their opinion on the Chrihanna situation. learned exclusively from eyewitnesses that DJ Cobra sent a message that everyone in the club heard loud and clear.

It all took place during a celebration for Los Angeles Clipper Baron Davis' 30th birthday. Rihanna arrived around 12:30 a.m. Sunday. "She was seated upstairs next to Baron's party, dancing on the railing overlooking the club," a source tells RadarOnline.

That’s when Cobra took notice and instead of playing one of her many hit tracks, decided to send a different message. "He played a pre-recorded sound-byte over a beat that said, 'Chris Brown should get his ass kicked.' The crowd went wild,"’s source says.

Cobra played and remixed the sentiment to Brown for almost a full minute, we're told.

Antwon Tanner, who currently plays the character Skills on "One Tree Hill," surrendered Thursday in Brooklyn Federal Court to face shocking charges of allegedly selling bogus Social Security numbers and cards after he was caught in a sting operation. Now if you don't know Tanner on "One Tree," you may know him from the movie Coach Carter.

Tanner, 34, has no prior criminal record. He faces up to five years in prison if convicted.

"It's really sad," said a source familiar with the investigation. "He's got a real career."

Tanner pleaded not guilty at the arraignment and was released on a $250,000 bond. He and his defense lawyer refused to answer reporters' questions.

The two-count indictment alleges Tanner and others engaged in the fraudulent scheme between December 2005 and July 2008.

Tanner, who lives in California, supplied 16 Social Security numbers and three bogus Social Security cards to a middleman who sold them to an undercover Immigration and Customs Enforcement agent, the source said.

Some of the Social Security numbers were unassigned while others were traced to dead people and to persons who did not know their identification numbers had been stolen by Tanner, the source said.

At the same time Tanner was pocketing thousands of illicit dollars, the diminutive actor's career was taking off.

Tanner allegedly participated in the scheme from the West Coast and did not meet personally to hand over the fake numbers, the source said. Some of the bogus documents were sent in the mail.
